Access to websites and files on our websites
Each time a user visits a page of one of our websites or requests a file from our Web server, data about this process will be automatically stored in a log file and processed. Specifically, the following data will be stored about each visit/request:
The aforementioned data, including the IP address, will be stored for the duration of the communication process to facilitate your use of our websites. Based on our legitimate interests (Art. 6 para. 1 let. f) GDPR) we will also store your IP address for a maximum of seven calendar days to ensure IT security, in particular to protect our IT systems against misuse and attacks.
We reserve the right to anonymize data and to analyze data in anonymous form for statistical purposes and for improving our websites.
Cookies
What are cookies?
We use so-called "cookies" for our websites. A cookie is a small file in which certain information (e.g., settings and data for exchange with our server) is stored on a data carrier (e.g., a hard drive) of your terminal device (e.g., your computer). Some web browsers create a new file for each cookie, whereas other web browsers store all cookies in the same file. Cookies may contain information by which you can be personally identified.
Which cookies do we use?
We use cookies whose data will be erased by us when you close your web browser (session cookies).
We use session cookies which store a random, clear identification number, a so-called session ID (i.e., a pseudonym for you, the user), and the pages of our websites you visit. You can view the session cookies we use via the link below "Customize Consent".
Some functions of our website cannot be offered without the use of cookies. For these, it is necessary that the browser is also recognized after a page change. The user data collected with technically necessary cookies are not used to determine the identity of users or to create user profiles. The legal basis for processing personal data by means of technically necessary cookies is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f) GDPR.
When you visit one of our websites, cookies for which not we, but third parties, are responsible may also be stored on your terminal device (so-called third-party cookies), e.g., cookies used by Google for Google Analytics or Google Remarketing (see below).
Processing these cookies requires your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit a GDPR). You may revoke your consent at any time, where you can also find all further information on third-party cookies. All processing operations carried out until consent is revoked remain unaffected:
How can you block cookies?
You can block cookies through the settings of your web browser. Web browsers generally allow you to do so in several different ways. As a general rule, you can select settings in your browser that will automatically block all cookies, allow only cookies from certain websites, or notify you before a cookie is placed.
Information about how you can block or delete cookies with the help of your web browser is available from the help function of your web browser.
Internet Explorer, for example, allows you to block cookies as follows: open Internet Explorer and click on "Extras" and then on "Internet Options." Then click on the tab "Data Privacy" and move the slider to the desired data privacy level. If you select the data privacy level "block all cookies", all cookies from all websites will be blocked; cookies that are already on your computer cannot be read by websites. You can also employ user-defined data privacy settings for websites.
Accepting cookies is not a requirement for visiting our websites. We note however that if you block cookies, you may no longer be able to fully use all functions of our websites or those of third-party websites.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin, Ireland ("Google"), based on consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. a. GDPR). Under its terms of use, Google reserves the right to use personal data also for its own purposes. However, Google does not disclose whether and which personal data are used by Google.
Google uses cookies, provided you have given your consent. Information generated by cookies about the use of our website is usually transmitted to a server of Google LLC in the U.S.A. and stored there. Google processes data in the U.S.A. based on EU standard contractual clauses and thus provides appropriate safeguards within the meaning of Art. 46 (1), (2) c) GDPR. Only if you have given your consent, will your personal data be processed by Google.
You can find more information about cookies used by Google as well as the option to revoke your consent at the following link to our Consent Manager:
Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate the use of our website by users, to compile reports on the activities of users of this website, and to provide us with other services related to the use of this website and the Internet. In this connection, processed data may be used to create pseudonymous user profiles.
We only use Google Analytics with IP anonymization activated. This means that the IP address of users is masked by Google within member states of the European Union or in other signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the U.S.A. and masked there.
The IP address transmitted by a user's browser is not merged with any other data of Google. In addition to the default setting at the start of using the website, you can block cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser software; you can also prevent the collection of cookie-generated data related to your use of this website by Google and the processing of these data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.
For more information about Google's data use, settings and opt-out options, please visit Google's websites: ("Data use by Google when you use our partners' websites or apps"), http://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads ("Data use for advertising purposes"), http://www.google.de/settings/ads ("Manage data Google uses to show you ads").
The service is used based on our legitimate interests, i.e., our interest in a platform-independent provision of content in accordance with Art. 6 (1) lit. f) GDPR.
The integration of videos results in calls to the servers of Vimeo for technical reasons. For the associated use of data from your browser or terminal device, we refer you to the data privacy policy of Vimeo, as Vimeo is responsible for the data processing involved. The time period for which processed data are stored is beyond our control, but is determined by Vimeo. Additional information can be found in the Vimeo privacy policy: https://vimeo.com/privacy.

When using our contact form or sending emails to us, you are free to provide fictitious data about your identity or only an email address.
If you send an unencrypted message to us, the message may be read or even altered during transfer by unauthorized third parties.
We will store your information, including your email address, if and to the extent that we need such data to process your inquiry or message, Art. 6 para. 1 b) GDPR.
We use a spam filter; though not intended, it cannot be ruled out that even desired emails will be automatically classified as spam by mistake, moved to a separate spam folder, and then deleted.
We also use software to protect against emails that may contain malware, such as computer viruses. Such emails will be deleted by us as well.
